Which Phone?

I am often asked about which gadget to buy, as if I am an expert on every electronic device on the market. Just recently, I was asked about what cell phone to buy. As most people know, I am a huge fan of Blackberry. I realize that not everyone shares my passion for the crack-berry. The question I will often ask the most is what is your intended purpose. Will your phone be used primarily for business or personal use? For the most part, all smartphones are capable of doing the same things. What makes one device more suited to some purposes than others typically comes down to the user interface and the ergonomics.

Some people look at devices that have more apps developed for it to be the best, but apps do not make a device better. Some devices do not need an app to be created, because the device is capable of HTML5 and viewing Adobe Flash. Basically what all this means is that if your device is capable of doing the same thing over the web, there is no need for an app. Apps actually extend functionally that is not natively available.

If your usage is primarily for fun, you can't go wrong with an Android or Apple device. These platforms has a massive assortment of games and so many different ways of being social. The difference comes that if you use an Apple product, you are forever tied to iTunes. With Android, you can get music, games, apps etc from anywhere. You can copy music you purchased elsewhere and just copy it to your phone. The benefit to Apple is that it is not Open Source. While Open Source has is perks, it is more susceptible to attack. With there being so many Android devices on the market, I would make a decision based off a few things: must have removable memory, is visually appealing, feels good in the hand, and the ease of finding a case or screen protector.

So you maybe wondering why I continue to go with BlackBerry. Security is the most important thing to me, followed by the ability to link calendars, emails, and tasks. No device or software is immune to attach, but some companies will incorporate security into their design. Other than the occasional poker game, I only use my Blackberry for keeping my schedule, to do lists, and emails. A BlackBerry to me is a work-horse and a communication device. Since it does have the capability of playing music, and I have a 32GB micro-SD in it, you will typically find me using it to play music at the gym. It is an awesome device for music and movies, but my primary purpose of it is business.
