I was with a former colleague at the driving range, and was informed that he was in the market to buy a new laptop. After a few hours at the driving range, I noticed that the quality of my swing was starting to deteriorate, and we mutually decided it was time to go. Despite the fact that Best Buy is not in my top 3 choices to purchase electronics, for those that are not tech savvy, it is a pretty good place. It's not that I do not like Best Buy as a business, the types of electronics like are not found on their shelves. The beautiful thing about them is that shoppers are able to use and feel many of the products before they buy.
My colleague had in his mind that he wanted a Windows Surface Pro 4. He was ordinarily a MAC user, but he found it difficult to use MAC for his business. He operates in an industry driven by PC, and figured that the Surface Pro was light and portable with laptop performance. While the Surface Pro 4 is a very capable machine, I believe it is over priced. He liked the fact that the Surface is a tablet, but a mouse and keyboard could be added to it. This would have made this a system that would have been over $2k, and there are alternatives that will give you the same horsepower with similar characteristics.
The one I advised was the Lenovo Yoga 910. The Lenovo Yoga 910 has very similar performance of the Surface Pro 4, is about a pound heavier, has more external ports, attached keyboard and mouse, touchscreen, and is almost $300 less. The thing I like most is that is the user wanted to use this device purely as a tablet, the keyboard can be folded behind the screen. The keys were recessed so that it can be used in this position without accidental key presses. In my opinion, this system is truly the best of both worlds. He agreed with me, and opted for this system, and so far has had no complaints.
