Placing a password on your computer prevents others from gaining easy access to that computer. While there are ways of getting around a simple username and password, these methods are not simple for the average person. Sometimes when people purchase a new computer, they do not utilize a password to secure their computer. This could be because they are the only person that has physical access to that computer, or because they can’t come up with a password at the time of setup.
Whatever the reasoning is for not using a password or if you want to change your password, the steps below will help you implement a password on your account.
- Turn on your computer and allow it to boot into the Windows Operating system.
- Press CTRL + ALT + DEL at the same time
- You will arrive at at a blue screen that will give you the option to Change a password. Click on Change a password.
- If there is no current password for your account, you will be prompted to enter your password twice. If a password already exists, you will be prompted to enter the old password first.
- Press Enter once you are finished.
While there are other ways to arrive at the same place, this is the simplest and most consistent way to change this for a novice user
